By Tuesday (Nov. 2nd)
By Tuesday everybody needs at least an outline of their case!
We will be working on writing them during practice, (along with a couple of other things)
because we need to practice actual rounds on Thursday. Thursday we will also be helping you edit cases if you are not entirely done, but seeing as our first tournament is on Friday, you cannot procrastinate!

Attention!
Tell everyone you know on the debate team!
Practice doesn't start until 7:45 tonight!
We have some people coming to debate for you guys, and they can't come until a little bit later, so please don't come at seven!

How to refute and respond to attacks
(Hannah will hopefully get this information to you on the facebook group. . . or maybe this blog. I don't know)
Social contracts - used by more ignorant debaters, so DON'T FALL FOR THEM. While in themselves really cool, social contracts by famous philosophers such as Hobbes, Locke, and Rousseu aren't relatable to present day situations
Hobbes social contract
1) State of nature - you can only get what you can grow
2) Obligation of state - must protect from anarchy
3) Obl. of citizens - follow laws, and the only right is to protect their lives.
Look up Locke and Rousseu's social contracts, and study them.

Debate Fees
If you look at the latest calendars we gave you, you might notice that it says the debate fee is due next week. We were supposed to talk to Dr. Bayles yesterday, but he was gone, so we still don't know how much those are going to be. So don't worry about them at all. We'll tell you when we know what that will be. See everyone at practice on Tuesday!

Dear Debaters. . .
For our first practice tonight please bring a pencil and some paper, as well as a folder to keep hand-outs in. Also, we have heard of some people paying the 175 dollar fee. . . please don't! We haven't decided what the cost of this year's tournaments and transportation will be, but we have a meeting with Dr. Bayles today. Hopefully it will be decided soon.
